Rugged, precision process calibrator

April 2004 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

The new Calog range of handheld process control calibrators is available from Instrotech, as part of its locally-manufactured product offering. With many features for the price, the company is confident that this user-profiled range is comparable in modern component technology, feature capabilities and robust package design to units produced in Europe and the USA.

Current versions available include:

* Loop calibrator for powered and passive process milliamps with voltage and continuity measurement.

* Thermocouple calibrator for measurement and source of millivolt and all commonly used thermocouples.

* Process calibrator suitable for PLC and scada use with mV, V, mA, counting and frequency.

* In development are calibrators for pressure; load cells and FFT based sound analysis.

A full range of functions such as source and measurement of mA, display of actual value, percentage or trend logging, increment, auto step, auto ramp or valve stroking. The user-friendly 'key-per-digit' function simplifies numeric selection via five individual up/down keys.

Calog's built-in rechargeable NiMH battery ensures continuous operation for up to 20 hours. Chip technology developed to manage cellphone batteries measures the current in and out as well as the voltage and then programmes the ideal fast and trickle charge. This device accurately displays the battery condition in percentage.

Calog's housing is manufactured from UL 94 V-O flame retardant ABS plastic with an IP54 dust and splash proof rating. To provide enhanced protection against harsh operating conditions, the calibrator is supplied as standard in a durable, non-slip rubber boot. The base housing design, keypad layout and operation is common to all models. The end cover connection plate is interchangeable to accommodate the various versions. All versions have built-in transmitter power supplies.
