The GA range of earth leakage protection relays from NewElec, features an immunity to harmonics that are usually present when starting large electric motors direct-on-line. The harmonic filtering circuit is also an added advantage when considering VSD applications.
An additional advantage is that both instantaneous and IDMT curves are available on one relay. The single type core balance CTs are available in different ID sizes but are suitable for both tripping curves. One of either two yellow LEDs are lit to indicate the tripping curve characteristic selected by the user, while a red LED illuminates on initiation of a trip condition.
The GA relay is designed for flush door mounting and requires an auxiliary supply of either 110 or 220 V a.c. making it necessary to power the relay from upstream of the isolating circuit breaker.
