Monitran has launched its latest intrinsically safe (IS) accelerometers, or vibration sensors, for use in a wide range of applications in hazardous areas. Designed and manufactured by this UK company, the new accelerometers incorporate a number of features that will assist end-users in the quarrying, petrochemical and mining industries to improve the performance, reliability and safety of operating equipment.
The latest IS family of products includes the 1107IC, the 1100IC and the 1185IC. Each product has full ATEX and EEX approval, and they are constructed throughout from stainless steel and sealed to IP67. They are simple to install, set-up and use, without the need for recalibration or regular maintenance.
The 1185IC has a 4 to 20 mA output and can be interfaced easily with the standard data collection devices used in realtime monitoring and alarm systems. By comparison the 1107IC and the 1100IC can be interfaced through conventional safety barrier systems and are supplied with a choice of mounting, connector and cable options.
Typical applications for the IS accelerometers include the measurement of acceleration, velocity and bearing conditions in a wide range of equipment, including; pumps, motors, fans and gearboxes on compressors, conveying equipment, earth moving machinery and offshore drilling rigs.
