With the new linear measuring system, Limes from Kübler, traversing movements are sensed by a magnetic rule. This takes the form of a basic structure, either a steel band or a metal ring, with a magnetic layer that is magnetised at equal intervals with north and south poles. This new kind of rule is manufactured from specially developed magnetic materials - these depend on the accuracy required. A sensor travels along the rule in order to measure and determine position, and reads the positional data. Special conversion processes determine from this the displacement or angle information, as well as the direction of travel.
The system is immune to contamination such as dust or liquids. However, a much more important advantage comes from the fact that the sensor does not actually come into contact with the rule - so there is no wear. Whether linear or radial, there are various systems available for both applications. Limes converts the measured data into information regarding position and direction. Simple to operate and practical to assemble, the system also allows for retrofitting existing installations, where the measured values can be shown directly on a display or transmitted as an input signal to a machine controller.
Limes is suitable for highly dynamic accurate processes, which make special demands on the acquisition of measured values; it offers an economical alternative to optical systems. Naturally the main applications lie in linear-guidance and drive technology.
Limes was designed to operate reliably over very long measurement distances even under difficult outside conditions. Measuring lengths over 100 m can be achieved.
