Citect executes multimillion rand contract with Impala Platinum

The execution of a multimillion rand contract involved delivering a powerful new suite of CitectIIM analysis modules to Impala Platinum Holdings (Implats), Base Metal Refineries (BMR). The modules integrate seamlessly with existing plant and business systems to present Impala BMR management with realtime information on the performance of their plant, allowing them to make informed decisions which have a positive impact on their bottom line.

Expanding on the success of its already installed flagship product, Citectscada, Citect was tasked with providing Implats BMR with a system to improve plant performance. Following a survey of the BMR plant's business information requirements, Citect delivered a suite of modules which provide flexible and powerful analysis and reporting on production efficiency and effectiveness measures including production; product quality; asset utilisation, production rates and costs; and other key performance indicators.

"Citect has performed extremely well over the past nine months in implementing the IIM modules," said Tim Spandiel, plant manager, Impala BMR. "The system will give management a clear picture on production performance throughout the plant, by aggregating data from various systems and presenting them with an analysed, easy-to-understand snapshot."

"Having launched Citect's IIM modules in May this year, their early adoption in a number of large projects across various industries around the world is validation of the market demand for realtime industrial information management," said Wayne Morris, managing director and CEO, Citect. Based on the success of the five modules already delivered, two further modules, CitectIIM Cost and Maintenance, are now being configured at the Implats BMR plant.

About Impala Platinum

South Africa is the world's largest producer of platinum, accounting for 4,7 million ounces (70%) of total world supply. Implats currently produces around 1,7 million ounces of platinum (or 25% of global production). Production will increase to 2 million ounces of platinum by 2006, securing Implats' role as a leading producer into the future.
