Monitran has launched a range of high performance accelerometers, designed specifically for direct connection to industry standard PLCs, using a conventional two-wire 4-20 mA interface. Designated the MTN/1185 Series, the new products are suitable for use in a wide range of industrial and process applications, providing a reliable, cost-effective method of monitoring the operating condition of rotating or moving machinery.
The MTN/1185 Series includes standard, submersible and intrinsically safe versions. In each case, the products incorporate Monitran's proven piezoelectric sensors. These use a piezoelectric crystal, which is attached to a seismic mass; vibration of the surface on which the accelerometer is mounted will cause the accelerometer to move in relation to the seismic mass, thus compressing or tensioning the crystal. This subsequently generates an electrical signal, which is directly proportional to the level of acceleration or vibration.
One advantage of this technology is that it offers excellent long-term stability and reliability, while providing a wide frequency response, from 2 Hz to 1 kHz (±10%), plus a good dynamic range, with an output signal that can be interpreted to give velocity and displacement values.
All products in the MTN/1185 Series are manufactured from high grade stainless steel and can be supplied with a choice of output connectors and 5 m armoured cables as standard. The accelerometers are supplied fully calibrated; in most industrial and process applications Monitran states that recalibration on a regular basis is generally unnecessary, although the company does offer a recalibration service if required.
