The use of bus systems in mechanical and plant engineering offers savings potentials through low installation costs, easy maintenance, and convenient diagnostics. The S-Line installation from Phoenix Contact combines these advantages: its openness allows S-Line to connect with the Interbus, Profibus-DP, CANopen and DeviceNet fieldbus systems as well as Ethernet. The commissioning times and the number of installation errors are reduced through the principle of plugging instead of wiring, configuring, and switching.
The system offers a combination of fieldbus and safety technology and can be used as a straightforward standard fieldbus system as well as solely for networking safety switches using M12 connection technology. Using both circuits in one cable offers the maximum exploitation of potential.
An S-Line installation both begins and terminates in an Inline station. The safety relay is also situated there. The I/O modules networked in the ring system and meeting protection category IP67 are connected via pre-assembled, four-wire cables. Within these cables, two wires are used for the fieldbus signal, the supply to the module electronics and to the sensors for the digital inputs. The other two wires are used as an integrated safety circuit.
