The Calomat 6 gas analyser from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) for continuous measurement of hydrogen and inert gases is also available in an IP65 field version. This has been specially designed for direct use in hazardous areas, for example in the chemical industry. In zone 2 or with non-combustible gases, the analyser can be used without any supplementary equipment. When equipped with a purging unit, the new analyser can also be used for measurements in combustible gases and in zone 1.
Just like the standard analyser in 19-inch rack design, the new field version of the Calomat 6 is primarily used for bipolar gases that cannot be measured using NDIR or paramagnetic procedures, for example the measurement of hydrogen in blast furnace gas or with argon, nitrogen and carbon dioxide mixtures. The specific thermal conductivity of the sample gas mixture is measured continuously, and the concentration derived. The Calomat 6 can carry out up to four-fold correction of cross-interferences; an external computer is unnecessary.
The dynamic range of the Calomat 6 can be selected from 0-1% or from 0-100%. The analyser can be integrated without problem into automation networks using an RS 485, Profibus-DP or Profibus-PA interface, and parameterised and operated using the Simatic PDM engineering tool. To enable fast and simple maintenance, the analysers can also communicate via TCP/IP and Ethernet with the Siprom GA analysis tool installed on a computer or host system.
