Chlorine production - challenging requirements for level sensors

Chlorine is used as a base chemical for diverse processes, from the production of plastic to the disinfection of drinking water. One type of chlorine production is the electro-chemical division of saline water into hydrogen and chlorine. In order to achieve the highest possible yield and at the same time place as low an environmental burden as possible, the most modern and sophisticated technologies are utilised. The aggressiveness of chlorine requires the level measurement instrumentation to have a high resistance to chemical attack. During electrolysis powerful electromagnetic fields are created that the instruments must be able to withstand.
German level measurement specialist, Vega, has produced high resistant instrumentation ranging from vibrating level switches to enamel coated radar gauges. They provide reliable performances in these demanding environments. Both perform well regardless of product variation and gas layers.
