Drives HVAC summit highlights the need for integrated solutions

May 2003 News Integrated Solutions Infrastructure

In what has become an annual event, delegates from Danfoss divisions across the globe converged on Sun City in the North West Province for the 2003 Danfoss Drives HVAC summit.

The summit provides an open forum for practical knowledge transfer, as well as new products and developments in the pipeline, which will enable Danfoss to maintain its position as a leading supplier to the HVAC industry.

The need for a stronger focus on integrated solutions was a key point to emerge from the summit. "The true potential lies beneath the surface," was the message used to drive this point home. "On the surface, the drive is often viewed in isolation as a capital expense. However, the optimum cost efficiency is realised when the drive is fully integrated into the system. Danfoss' HVAC expertise allows the company to engineer the drive as a fully integrated system component, thereby reducing system installation time to such an extent that the initial cost of the drive is virtually offset," says Gordon Potts, Danfoss Motion Controls and Flow, one of the two local representatives to attend the summit.

"Below the surface, we are able to deliver real savings by delivering the best return on investment, providing optimum performance and environmental conditions. Through a combination of HVAC-designed product functionality, application knowledge and integration expertise, Danfoss is able to deliver a substantially lower system cost, as well as optimising energy savings."

Renewed effort to educate the market on the features and benefits of Danfoss drives is another aim to emerge from the summit. "Our drives can do a lot more than simply control the speed of the motors, such as wireless data transfer, significant energy saving due to an Automatic Energy Optimiser (AEO) and an LCP with a quick set-up menu that minimises programming," states Potts.

"The VLT 6000 is a dedicated HVAC drive with advanced variable speed technology to reduce energy and maintenance costs. Unlike other drives, there is no need to buy extra equipment with the VLT 6000. Everything, including an RFI filter, DC links and a 2-zone PID controller is built-in, as well as a wide selection of integrated communication options."

New products information include a harmonic filter that can be fitted to the VSD as an extra component, and an upgraded LONworks and new BACnet communication protocol with the ability to link up to nine drives to a single interface, thereby lowering costs for the end-user.
