Jofra's traditional range of dryblock calibrators has been affected by the new European calibration guideline, EA-10/13 issued by the European Cooperation for Accreditation. This in effect changes the way in which a dryblock calibrator should be specified.
The new ATC advanced calibrator range from Ametek-Jofra has been designed and specified in accordance with EA-10/3. This has required several innovative features. Axial homogeneity has been considerably improved by the new dual zone heating unit, which adds a second heating element to the top of the block, controlled to give zero difference between zones. Mains Variance Immunity is another feature, which eliminates the error caused by variations in mains voltage.
A specially designed right-angled SPRT is available for best accuracy work, avoiding the problem where standard SPRTs cannot be fitted when a temperature element with a housing is used. The 'Set Follows True' feature allows the PV in the controller to be taken from the external SPRT.
The built-in automation feature is most important. Measuring temperature takes time, and there is a lot of dead time associated with a temperature calibration. The ATC series B will perform a complete calibration in the field, collecting and storing all the data, without requiring the presence of an operator.
The calibrator comes with Ametek's Amecal Temperature. This allows calibration procedures to be defined and downloaded to the calibrator. After the calibration has been carried out, the results can be uploaded to the host PC, analysed, filed, and printed out in the form of a certificate. As Found/As Left calibrations are handled. Users can accept the standard Ametek stability criteria, or create their own. Stability is clearly indicated on the calibrator's display, and a SYNC output is provided to confirm stability to any external devices that may be connected. Other software features include programming a maximum temperature to avoid overheating units under test, and in the heat/cool versions, the ability to program a return to a safe storage temperature after the test, so that the unit can be returned to its storage box without harm.
Jofra first introduced its dryblock calibrators in the 'eighties, and is a respected name in this field.
