Inductive selective switches from Wengler
March 2011
Sensors & Transducers
ASStech has a new range of inductive proximity switches from Wengler.
These are capable of detecting various metals and of differentiating between ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic objects. The units can be supplied in flush and non-flush mounting designs.
The switch has a large switching distance and high switching frequency. When flush-mounted, the unit achieves a switching distance of 15 mm and a switching frequency of 200 Hz. The non-flush mounting type offers the same switching frequency with an even greater switching distance of 25 mm.
The rugged plastic housing with IP 67 protection makes the switches suitable for use in harsh operating conditions and they function reliably and accurately at temperatures from -15 to 70°C. The proximity switch has a square shape (40 x 40 x 70 mm) and the connector side can be turned in any direction. This allows for flexible installation of the sensor within the required environment.
The antivalent PNP switching outputs make it possible to adapt the function of the sensor output according to application and to reduce the number of variants kept in stock.
This switch was initially developed for the quick detection and processing of beverage cans made of various materials in large counting systems and bottling depots. It is used by certified manufacturers of machines for counting and registering one-way beverage packages requiring a deposit. The new switches are also suitable for differentiating between the tool and the workpiece in toolmaking applications, as well as in machine tools. Metals with specific material characteristics can even be detected from among other metallic objects.
