It was a case of mixing business with pleasure at the 2018 Secunda branch annual golf challenge held recently at the Walker Park Golf Club. The day was an overwhelming success despite the weather which was ‘acceptable’ for golf, but conditions fluctuated from windy to wet and cold. MJ and her staff at WPGC did a great job of running the clubhouse facility and the course was in an outstanding condition. Branch chairman Johan Maritz says, “We hosted a fantastic corporate golf day consisting of 32 teams from various companies which played against each other. It was not only a fundraising event, but we also used the opportunity to expose our profession to this wonderful sport.”
Golf challenge winners Afrilek receive the trophy (left to right) Pregs Naidoo, Johan Maritz (branch chairman), Jurie Weidemann, Jacques Siebretts and Riaan Burger.
The winner this year was team Afrilek who had their name added to the trophy. The tournament was fully subscribed with 128 golfers, a number that made the pace of play somewhat slower than normal, but acceptable to both our sponsors and the players. Every tee and green sponsorship was sold and the raffle was filled with a variety of unique prizes. After golf, everyone enjoyed a spit braai sponsored by Mitech – a word of gratitude to Alli Albers and his team.
