Time to hand over the reins
It is with mixed feelings that I write this, my last letter to you as SAIMC president. It is with sadness because, with the support of council, I have really enjoyed the privilege of leading this selfless organisation – side by side we helped each other to drive the SAIMC’s strategic agenda forward. In the same breath, I am excited because it is now time for extensively experienced industry leader, Rob Mackezie, to take us toward new frontiers.
Last call to the industry as president
As humans, we all experience yearnings for purpose, meaning and belonging. We want to touch our inner riches and live fulfilling lives, but there are tall gates blocking the way to our own potential. Substantiated by personal experiences, I believe that being part of the SAIMC will help individuals to learn to scale these obstacles. It is a long hard path that involves becoming resilient as well as changing old ways of thinking, living more consciously and purposefully, shrugging off meaningless influences and standing firmly in virtuous fortitude. The challenge, as always, is in translating our intent into real action through making courageous choices. To this end, I call to all those who are not yet part of the SAIMC to make a courageous choice, join the SAIMC and commence the journey of contributing towards something bigger than ‘self’, thus helping to build the South African nation through the lenses of education and automation industry development.
In conclusion, my wish is to cultivate and heighten across industry the intention of wanting to be the best for the world, not necessarily only the best in the world. I believe it is the basic call for all South Africans to become more than we currently are.
Beyond the horizon
While we look forward to the holiday season, 2018 is set to be a fantastic year with several exciting and impactful initiatives. Now is the time to reflect on the activities of the year that has passed, learn from it, and plan for the year ahead.
With that said, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to the SAIMC business partners and to our individual members. I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to ECSA, Thebe Reed, EE Publishers and our official publication, SA Instrumentation and Control, for their outstanding contribution to the success the SAIMC has experienced over the years. To our patrons, you are the reason behind our endurance and achievements. To the council, the SAIMC of today stands tall on your shoulders. I thank all of you for your contribution in my journey as president of the SAIMC.
