The branch organised a cheese and wine evening in November 2016 as its year-end function. It was hosted by the Cheese Gourmet in Linden, which included a presentation on cheese, as well as cheese and wine pairing. The presentation described the farms, history, people and philosophy behind cheese-making.
Cheeses sampled included Goats Chèvre (soft on the palate and very creamy), Camembert (a local dreamy interpretation), Havarti (mild, full of flavour, an all-rounder), Huguenot (currently the top cheese in South Africa, strong and distinctive, wash rind), Strong Cheddar (well balanced, strong, very true to the original flavour) and Gorgonzola (blue cheese).
This enjoyable evening was well received by all who attended.
