On Thursday 3 March, the Secunda branch hosted its second Technology Evening for 2016. It was the biggest turn out for a Tech Evening yet, with about 50 people attending. A great presentation can be distinguished by two key qualities, firstly a presenter that is passionate about his topic, and secondly, engaging the audience in such a way that they go home smarter. Hendrik Strauss from Moore Process Controls achieved this on both accounts. His presentation on compressor control engaged the entire audience with the different aspects of the topic. The basic functions of compressors were explained as well as how to control a compressor in order to prevent it from going into surge, or hitting the stonewall. The most important functions of compressor controls, as highlighted by Hendrik, are reducing the operating costs and increasing the availability of the machines.
Branch chairman Johan Maritz (left) thanks Hendrik Strauss after the presentation.
