The August Technology Evening was hosted by Comtest, with Gavin van Rooy presenting on wireless world measurements using handheld devices.
With today’s use of smartphones and wireless technology, there is now a way to collaborate, communicate, visualise and share information, capture key data, track trends and troubleshoot equipment – all from a remote location.

With present technology mainly incorporating wireless, everything is going to become application driven. In order for test and measurement companies to stay in touch they need to start adapting interfaces as to customer needs. Different companies at present use various wireless technologies which include ZigBee; Bluetooth, Bluetooth LE, Wifi and infrared. Gavin talked us through the way in which measurement is going in the future, and also the use of the cloud for data sharing via smartphones.
Topics covered included:
* Advantages, benefits and the importance of wireless technology.
* Devices using wireless technology.
* Service and installation best practices.
* Maintenance.
* Infrared cameras and wireless technology.
* Legislation.
* Comtest’s offerings.
The meeting was well attended, with a lengthy Q & A and a prize-giving session afterwards. We thank Gavin for his valued and informative presentation.

It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
