Vision sensor for colour inspections

December 2018 Sensors & Transducers

Banner Engineering’s iVu series vision sensors are now available in models capable of colour inspections. iVu Colour sensors build on the inspection capabilities offered by other iVu vision sensors by enabling inspections based on colour, or variations in colour, as well as by type, size, orientation or position. Compact and easy-to-use, the new colour sensors are available in models with an integrated or remote touch screen.

Key benefits

Application flexibility: in addition to the Match, Area, Blemish, and Sort iVu series sensors, iVu Colour features three new sensor types:

• Average colour: monitor objects for colour or variations in colour.

• Colour area: verify features are present and are the correct colour.

• Colour compare: verify an object matches a reference colour or colours.

Sensor types can be used alone or together to solve more complex applications.

Increased uptime: iVu vision sensors can store up to 30 inspections. Inspection parameters can be changed while inspections are in progress without stopping and restarting processes.

Ease of use: iVu Colour sensors feature touch screen operation, a graphical user interface, and menu-driven tools that make it easy to setup, manage, and monitor inspections without a PC.

Applications encompass monitoring objects for colour or variations in colour, determining object presence and colour, verifying object colour matches a reference colour, etc. Typically these include:

• Confirming bottle cap colour.

• Monitoring changes in colour.

• Checking part colour.

• Verifying wire placement and colour.

• Evaluating paint or stain colour.

• Inspecting labels and packaging.
