The branch held a successful AGM on 28 February at the Eskom Marketing Centre in Edgemead. The AGM was well attended with some of the older members showing great interest. The meeting was accepted as having sufficient representation to be considered fully constituted as per paragraph 13.4.9 of the SAIMC constitution. Five members in good standing were nominated, but one declined due to other commitments. The four members who accepted their nominations were unanimously voted in as committee members for 2013. The new committee then met to vote for office allocations. The committee also co-opted two extra members into the committee to boost its capacity. The following office allocations were decided upon:
* Mothibi Thabeng – chairman.
* Juandre Whon – vice-chairman.
* Ms Shakira Nursoo – secretary.
* Felix Dolo – secretary.
* Raymond Cloete – co-opted member.
* Selvan Murugan – co-opted member.

The new chairman thanked the branch for its support. His acceptance speech emphasised the need for all members to get involved in advancing the vision of the SAIMC and growing the branch. He challenged members to come up with ideas that can assist the committee in advancing the SAMC’s goals and stated that the branch will be focusing on ‘Let’s Campaign’, where every member participates in the journey to a successful branch and SAIMC.
Branch activities
The new committee will be meeting to map the branch’s plan for 2013. Feedback from members will be considered in drafting this plan, thus members are encouraged to submit ideas and comments to the committee. These can also be submitted for discussion on the branch’s various social media platforms – LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter – search for SAIMC Cape Town.
