It’s ifm’s condition monitoring and a whole lot more

ifm electronic has brought its system automation solutions out in full force. Particularly impressive is the condition monitoring solution, designed for continuous bearing condition monitoring on motors, gearboxes and fans.
“The beauty of the system is its ability to determine the status of a bearing at any particular point in time,” says ifm sales manager Francois Gey van Pittius. “This eliminates all the unnecessary downtime associated with a traditional planned maintenance approach, where a bearing might have to be replaced every six months, say – even if it is ok to run for another six.”
The system is based on vibration and temperature sensors which continually send their output to the local controller. The controller is loaded with the manufacturer’s profile for the bearing, and as soon as the signature goes off profile an alarm is initiated and the maintenance team informed.
