Personnel safety while working on electrical systems

October 2014 Electrical Power & Protection

Surgetek manufactures a comprehensive range of portable earthing and short-circuiting devices. Locally designed, the devices are used on overhead transmission and distribution power lines, indoor and outdoor substation busbars, electrified railway traction systems, transformer and switchgear terminals. The equipment ensures the safety of personnel while working on low, medium and high voltage electrical systems in the event of accidental energising.

The devices are designed and manufactured according to client requirements, and are rated in accordance with SANS 1934 to withstand full system fault current conditions for the total duration of the fault. The earthing and short circuiting devices are tested to simulate the worst possible conditions and comply with the electrical, mechanical and humidity penetration requirements of SANS 61230.

Included in the range are snap-on, screw type and tubular busbar phase clamps, earth clamps, fixed phase and earth connection points. Various accessories are available providing the ideal solution for all earthing requirements.
