Dehn’s intelligent surge arrester system
November 2013
Electrical Power & Protection
Dehn Protection South Africa has introduced Blitzductor, a modular DIN rail TVSS for series insertion into low energy measurement and control circuits (typically twisted pair with or without a ground shield), which protects the components, controllers, PLCs and measuring instruments at either end of the circuit, against high energy transients. Blitzductor has a pluggable module which contains the SPD/TVSS circuitry, permitting the removal of this module to be accomplished without the use of tools or the interruption of the circuit due to a pair of bypass contacts. The new Blitzductor XT is available in both two and four wire modules.
What makes the Blitzductor unique is the integrated LifeCheck radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology through which users can check the life of a module proactively without ever removing it from your system. LifeCheck permanently controls the operating state of the arrester; maximum thermal or electrical loads are reliably detected and can be read in a second by the DEHNrecord LC test device with non-contact RFID technology.
Speaking on the new line, Dehn Protection South Africa MD, Alexis Barwise says that maintenance of the Blitzductor is made easy due to the integrated LifeCheck early warning system, which detects arrester overload and warns of imminent failure. Permanent condition monitoring of LifeCheck-equipped arresters ensures a maximum degree of system protection and availability.
