SEW-Eurodrive is assisting its clients to optimise their applications by providing them with a comprehensive set of skills through its DriveAcademy located in Johannesburg.
“The academy offers drive technology training, and since its official establishment in South Africa in 2011, more than 500 customers have been trained,” notes general manager of communications, Rene Rose. “The DriveAcademy offers well researched and tested training material, as well as training demo systems.”
She indicates that the product specific and general training related to drive engineering is offered to both staff and customers. “There are 18 predefined courses offered in total, however, we can also customise courses to suit individual customer requirements.”
According to Rose, the logic behind the DriveAcademy is to provide customers with professional training to an international standard, as this will enable them to obtain maximum value from their product.
“By being self sufficient in the event of a breakdown, the customer limits downtime and productivity losses. The training puts the power back in the hands of the customer and ensures that the products keep working the way they were designed to,” she continues.

SEW-Eurodrive also offers demo benches that customers can purchase to conduct their own internal training. “The idea behind demo benches is that customers with training centres can purchase these to do their own internal training and also to do simulations and testing for actual applications in their plant,” says Rose.
DriveAcademy training specialist Clive O’Reilly explains that the demo benches play an important role in contributing to the level of artisan workmanship. “It helps the customer to keep plant availability as close to 100% as possible and is a worthwhile investment as training and skills development go a long way to ensuring the long-term sustainability of any business.”
