Eaton and Cooper unite at SPE Offshore Europe 2013
September 2013
News
Eaton has announced it will demonstrate a range of diverse solutions to enhance safety, reliability and efficiency at the international upstream industry exhibition, SPE Offshore Europe from 3-6 September in Aberdeen, Scotland. Visitors of Eaton’s stand (1E21) will learn about the company’s broad portfolio of electrical and explosion proof equipment for the offshore industry, including the latest innovations from recently acquired Cooper brands B-Line, CEAG, Crouse-Hinds, Hernis, MEDC and MTL. The company will also demonstrate its expertise at providing reliable, high-performance, marine approved energy distribution and UPS systems.
With the recent acquisition of Cooper Industries, Eaton has broadened its offering for the oil and gas sector. While it will remain strong in the areas of low and medium voltage power distribution, as well as power quality, the addition of Cooper’s core expertise in explosion proof enclosures, electrical and lighting equipment, safety notification systems, automation connectivity, instrumentation and monitoring, allows Eaton to further its presence in this space.
“The common driver for Eaton is developing innovations that differentiate us from the competition,” says Tony Brayford, regional vice president, Eaton oil and gas products, Europe. “We understand our customers and their specific needs in this industry and are focused on developing innovative technologies and providing services to help increase electrical safety, reliability and efficiency in offshore applications worldwide.”
One example is the need to consider weight and cost when designing offshore installations and platforms. To address this, Eaton’s Cooper B-Line division will be introducing a new cable ladder system at SPE Offshore Europe. The new solutions can reduce the number of structural steel supports needed by up to 66%, all without diminishing the load carrying capacity of the system.
Additional solutions on display at this year’s show include a new CEAG linear LED light fitting, which is explosion protected and allows for energy savings and reduced maintenance, as well as products for safe communications in hazardous areas, signalling and alarming, advanced camera based surveillance and process instrumentation. In addition, the Power Xpert UX, part of the company’s proven medium voltage switchgear portfolio and recent recipient of the Lloyd’s General Design Appraisal (GDA) marine certification, will be available to view. Finally, the company will showcase its UPSs specifically designed and pre-approved for marine and offshore applications to aid in the smooth operation of crucial electrical systems at sea.
Beyond products and solutions, visitors to SPE Offshore Europe 2013 can also learn how Eaton’s international service network, comprised of more than 1800 field personnel in 21 countries, can support specific applications. Thanks to its extensive global footprint in manufacturing, sales and support, as well as its international certifications, Eaton is capable of servicing customers wherever they are drilling, pumping or refining.
