Fluke’s power quality and energy analyser solutions

July 2013 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

The cost of electricity is increasing at an alarming rate and industry and facilities alike are looking for ways to conserve power in order to reduce escalating energy bills. Fluke has introduced a solution that not only gives a power quality analysis, but also has the ability to quantify energy losses in terms of Rands and cents. Its answer is the newly launched Fluke 430 Series II power quality and energy analysers, which replaces the current Fluke 430 series. The energy analysis capabilities of the 430 Series II gives electricians the ability to determine how much power is being wasted and calculate exactly the cost of the extra consumption.

The new Fluke 434, 435 and 437 Series II models help locate, predict, prevent and troubleshoot power quality problems in single and three-phase power distribution systems. Additionally, the patented energy loss algorithm, Unified Power Measurement, measures and quantifies energy losses due to poor power quality such as harmonics and unbalance issues, allowing users to pinpoint the origin of energy waste within a system and make the necessary repairs.

The 434 Series II energy analyser is specifically designed for facilities engineers, building managers, residential and commercial electricians and delivers power and energy analysis – energy loss calculator monetises cost of poor power quality.

The 435 Series II power quality and energy analyser has application in waveform capture and power inverter efficiency, such as inverters in solar and wind UPS applications. It is designed for utilities technicians and advanced power quality users.

The top-of-the-range 437 Series II power quality and energy analyser targets military, avionic and transport-focused industrial electricians and technicians for the capture of power quality measurements for avionic and military power systems with 400 Hz frequency requirements.

Built into the 430 Series II is a mathematical formula for the monetisation of energy created at Valencia University in the USA. Fluke heard about the work, did their own testing, and incorporated it into the 430 II series to extend the functionality to include energy monetisation capabilities.
