Real-time oil quality monitoring
December 2012
Sensors & Transducers
OMSA has introduced the Forty Tan Delta range of oil quality sensors to the South African market. The sensor has been designed to withstand harsh industrial environments and is resistant to impacts, high temperatures, shocks and vibrations. It weighs 160 g and is powered from a 9-30 VDC supply. The sensor detects oxidisation, contamination (water, glycol, fuel and dirt), TAN/TBN, viscosity breakdown, wear particles, soot and oil temperature.
Operation is similar to dielectric sensors, but both the capacitance and the conductance of the oil are measured. The sensors have been independently tested to verify performance and are certified to international standards for work in most commercial and industrial environments.
Supported by Tan Delta oil quality display instrumentation, which offers a real-time display of the oil condition, the Tan Delta display monitor gives instant alerts on an easy to read traffic light styled display critical to the operation of plant equipment.
The monitor can be operational 365 days per year if required and can store 16 384 readings at intervals down to one minute. The rugged polycarbonate IP67 rated enclosure with a membrane keypad has high quality industrial connectors. It has a temperature measuring range of -200 to 1200°C and an oil quality scale of 0 to 20.
