At a recent launch in Roodepoort, Vega Instruments SA presented Vega’s new range of guided wave radar (GWR) level sensors. Suitable for almost all level or interface measurement applications, the series is the latest in the plics range of instruments, the modular product system for instrumentation.
Vega Instruments SA’s MD John Groom welcomed guests to the Roodepoort Country Club and Vega Germany’s product manager for guided wave radar sensors, Wolfgang Perenthaler, explained the technology and advantages of using the Vegaflex 80 series. He showed, through practical demonstrations how easy process integration is and how improved echo separation reduces blocking distances for reliable use in small vessels.

Sensors are supplied with either a probe or cable that can be shortened or lengthened to suit the material. For liquids, a special version suitable for ammonia has been developed. The Vegaflex 86 is designed for use in extreme conditions such as a distillation column, steam boiler or a gas (LPG) tank. The Vegaflex 83 is the hygienic version for the food or pharmaceutical industries, designed with a rod probe made of high-grade stainless steel for easy cleaning. And the robust Vegaflex 82 is for use in bulk solids measuring with its self-learning signal analyses that detects dust or product build-up automatically.
The electronics have been designed with a predictive maintenance function, an event memory that saves the last 250 adjustments and essential information to allow for fast diagnosis. Automatic probe monitoring increases system security and all versions are designed for functional safety up to SIL 2/3.
