SAIMC: Johannesburg
October 2025
SAIMC
The Johannesburg Branch of the SAIMC held a successful Technology Evening on 10 September 2025 at the Bryanston Sports Club. The event was well attended and generously sponsored by Phoenix Contact.

Branch manager, Ann de Beer thanking Kevin Preston.
Kevin Preston gave an informative presentation titled “The Basics of Signal Transducers.” He explained the crucial role signal transducers play in the design and installation of field cabinets and remote panels, an aspect that is often overlooked.
His talk covered important topics, such as when to use active versus passive transducers based on the requirements of DCS/scada systems and field equipment. He also discussed input loop-powered versus output loop-powered configurations, as well as how different signal types and transmission distances affect the connection between field devices and control cabinets.
Attendees learned about the wide variety of signal transducers available from different OEMs, designed to meet the needs of diverse industrial applications.
The evening encouraged excellent participation, with lively discussions during and after the presentation. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive.
We look forward to seeing you at our next Technology Evening, scheduled for 8 October 2025, again at the Bryanston Sports Club. The Johannesburg Branch sincerely thanks Kevin Preston for his outstanding presentation and valuable contribution to the event’s success.
