SKF South Africa has proudly served as a key service provider for the Sishen Mine in Kathu, Northern Cape for the past fifteen years. The qualified onsite SKF team is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive range of quality products and services for the mine’s mobile equipment.
SKF area supervisor, Burger Maritz explains that at the start of 2024, the Sishen Mine introduced a month-to-month competition for its service providers across two distinct categories. The first was ‘Less EQA impact on truck availability’, which addresses downtime on their trucks. The second was ‘Best overall performer as service provider’ to give recognition to exceptional achievements in maintaining the lowest percentage of the EQA impact monthly.
The competition objectives were to mitigate breakdowns of products and equipment in a bid to boost uptime, leading to higher productivity, lower operational costs and optimised plant sustainability. “I am exceptionally proud of my incredible team, especially as we were up against some stiff competition from several other prominent service providers,” says Maritz.
Each team member received a medal from the mine customer as a testament of their achievements. “It is truly an honour to achieve both top positions, particularly because our success reflects not only the quality of our work, but also the excellence of our basket of solutions. These include the supply and fitment of Lincoln Single Line lubrication systems, grease and pressureless systems and fast fill products,” concludes Burger.
