Secunda Branch

The Secunda Branch again experienced a very full month in June, and it will seem that we are just getting more and more involved in activities in our area.

Supplytech had requested that we organise an educational session to train technicians and mechanicians on the Elo-Matic series of actuators. Thirty persons attended the training session, which was run on 14 June at the Kriel power station site. Thanks to Jan Botha from Supplytech.

At our monthly meeting on 21 June, Dave Howcroft delivered a presentation on the principles of tube leak detection in boilers. Dave also shared with us some of his experiences with companies and people during dealings and visits abroad. After the presentation when we enjoyed some snacks Dave and his son were kept busy with questions from interested people who wanted to know more.

The biggest event for the Secunda Branch was the launching of the Witbank Sub-Branch. Thirty-eight people attended this great event which took place at the offices of Supplytech in Witbank who also sponsored the evening. Stretch offered his site to the branch free of charge for their monthly meetings. The Chairman of the Secunda Branch spoke briefly on what the SAIMC is and what we promote. He also gave the reasons why persons interested in instrumentation and control should join the institute. All the members present then nominated and elected a committee to take up the challenge of making this sub-branch as successful as its father and grandfather. We wish them all the best and offer our support whenever needed. Piet van Rensburg then presented Marius Fourie with a copy of the constitution and a disk containing the master documents for the branch to use.

We hope to see a plan from this committee on how they intend to manage this branch. Marius will also attend the meetings of the Secunda Branch to give feedback on their progress and through this he will be ensured of support and assistance. He can be contacted at [email protected] and his cellphone number is: 082 650 0782.

THE SECUNDA BRANCH HAS DONE IT!
