Our 3rd Technology Evening was scheduled for 31 July which would have been a presentation titled: ‘Multidimensional measurement using lasers’ by James Portman of Laser Measurements. James however took ill shortly before flying to Cape Town. We arranged a speaker to stand in (BS) and through a combination of events the flights ran late and our speaker only landed at 19:35. Theo being a creative guy turned the evening into a networking event and great fun was had by all.
Those who enjoyed themselves the most were the ladies who had come along with their partners. A separate event had been arranged for them by Marie, Theo’s better half, who had invited Christa, a friend, along for the meeting. Christa has been doing artificial nails for more than 10 years and demonstrated the different products available: Acrylic; Silk/Fibre and Gel. Those that wanted to had the product demonstrated on their hands so they could see and feel their preference.
The site visit we were busy arranging on 29 August to Simonstown naval base to see what instrumentation is used on board the new Corvettes has been deferred. We have as an alternative, arranged a site visit to SA Breweries in Newlands for Friday 19 September starting at 11 am. RSVP to Theo please.
Our next Technology Evening on 28 August will have taken place by the time you read this – Yokogawa will be sponsoring the evening and the presentation will be by Tony Farah: 'A look at pressure measurement technologies through the ages'.
Non-SAIMC members note – visitors are welcome at our meetings. Bring a business card or you lose out on the draw.
