It is amazing what you can achieve by having committed people in a team.
I have worked in some teams where there was a lack of commitment from some members. In these types of teams the end goal is truly difficult to achieve and most times the goal is 'softened' to still make it achievable and to give the team some sort of achievement recognition. I have always been of the opinion that if you say you are going to do something – DO IT!
How many times have you been in your team meetings, the action items are read, and a big number of the action items have not been actioned? The usual excuse is that there was 'not enough time' line. So why did you accept the action item initially? Rather be honest and say that you can not commit to the action item in the first place. Give somebody else an opportunity to step up to the plate and show their commitment. On the other hand there are those that seem to take on too much, but still deliver on their commitments. These are the people you need in your 'A-Team'. A rare breed, but priceless.
I can assure you that the SAIMC has managed to find this 'rare breed' type person. We are a volunteer association, everybody has day jobs, with their associated commitments, yet these people spend hours on working for our industry, for free. Just driven by passion for what we do and what we are! Commitments are made by these individuals and delivered upon, driven again by pure passion, truly amazing!
During our annual banquet in October this year, I will give you proof of what the SAIMC has achieved this year, do not miss it. If you are not a member or if your company is not a member of our institution, you are missing out. Join us and see what you can do with three hundred and something Rand per year!

Voluntary associations always face the risk of their leaders burning out, while members may not always receive the value promised to them. SAIMC addresses this by spreading leadership across a Branch Council, led by our chief operations officer, Gerhard Greeff.
