The SAIMC Zambia branch held its Process Instrumentation and Automation exhibition 31 August at the Hotel Edinburgh in Kitwe. The theme was 'Connecting instrumentation and automation products and service providers to users'.
The programme started with a word of welcome from the branch chairman, Mr Titus Tito. A talk about SAIMC was presented by Mr Jones Kalela, immediate branch past chairman. He gave highlights on the structure, membership grades, benefits and activities of the SAIMC and urged exhibitors and visitors to join and support SAIMC Zambia Branch. A senior Konkola Copper Mines Procurement official gave a talk on the supply function. GE Fanuc launched their Proficy Process System in a separate hall where they gave a presentation on system programming. All exhibitors were given a chance to present a short profile and activities of their companies.
Ten exhibitors took part:
* Brentwood Energy that brought in GE Fanuc as the main exhibitor.
* Supertron Investments representing Vacon Drives and Controls.
* Thermo Electron SA.
* Yokogawa SA.
Three other Zambian companies gave financial support but did not take part:
* Semunje Investments.
* Silicon Electronics.
* VIJOG Investments.
The visitors consisted mainly of users, senior management such as engineering managers and procurement staff.
GE Fanuc sponsored lunch for the invited guests and visitors while SAIMC Zambia Branch took care of the welfare of the exhibitors and SAIMC support staff.
About 200 visitors attended the exhibition and mini conference. The holding of the exhibition in parallel with the GE Fanuc Proficy launch ensured that together we were able to capture a wide audience. Our hope is that the exhibition will become an annual event with other big exhibitors partnering with us.
We thank all our sponsors, exhibitors and visitors for giving us the encouragement through their support.
