Secunda branch news

January 2006 SAIMC

2005 just got started and it was over... incredible how time flies when you are busy.

Last year was no different for the Secunda branch and our members. At the beginning of 2005 we set ourselves some objectives. We stuck to our guns throughout the year and no matter how difficult sometimes, we have met all of them. With the loss of skills in the trade the workload for the remaining has increased considerably. This created a great deal of pressure on the members as well as the committee. Knowing the commitment of our members it is understandable that they still stayed focused on the task ahead. It is for this reason that the past year has turned out as successful as it did.

The area where we probably had the most success was building a relationship with the Vaal University of Technology and The Penmac Roadshow. This relationship will grow in the years to come and hopefully our students will reap the benefit from this. In the New Year we will make a concerted effort to set combined targets for the evaluation of the best student of the year to receive our Apollo award. We are also planning an award ceremony where we will present the university with a bookshelf with books donated by IDC and some of our other sponsors and members.

Our two prestigious events, the Golf Day and our year-end function again were outstanding. Our special thanks to our President who attended both. He also personally handed the Branch of The Year Award to our Chairman at our year-end function. Mariaan from the Marietjie Centre in Secunda was the receiver of our charity collection at our golf day. Peter Zietsman presented her with a cheque for R2500,00.

This year the Secunda Branch again will live the ideology of the institute to the full with all our attempts to satisfy the needs of our members and sponsors alike. Hopefully we will be able to also establish a relationship with the technical colleges in our area and proving to industry the benefits of our institute.

To have the edge you have to know what is in the market regarding new technology. You must also continue to brush up on things you once knew but have forgotten over the years. Join us at our monthly evenings at the offices of Wika in Trigaard.
