Top engineering students at universities and technikons throughout Gauteng are being recognised for academic achievement in the area of control and instrumentation. A new award, under the auspices of the Johannesburg branch of the South African Institute of Measurement & Control (SAIMC), is being sponsored by Schneider Automation in order to further encourage students to specialise and excel in the application of control technology.
The seven participating institutions in the province are the University of Pretoria, RAU and Wits University, as well as the Technikons of Pretoria, Northern Province, Vaal Triangle and Wits. The presentations are made at each institution's graduation ceremony where a medal, certificate and cash award, sponsored by Schneider Automation, is given to the top student as judged by the relevant lecturers and the SAIMC.
Commenting on its involvement, Jaap Grobler, CEO Of Schneider Automation, said that the company’s support of this award is in line with its policy of assisting educational institutions to enhance standards in control and instrumentation studies and is part of its ongoing commitment to continued education.
It is planned that this will be an annual award and is an initiative of the SAIMC's Johannesburg Branch Education Subcommittee.
