Infrared detection of combustible chemicals
March 2003
Sensors & Transducers
After the successful launch of its IR13BD and IR14BD sensors earlier this year, E2V is releasing details of another high-accuracy, infrared flammable sensor - the IR600.
The IR600 allows the repeatable measurement of lower explosive level (LEL) concentrations of a wide range of combustible gases in hazardous environments. Available on its own - or with an optional transmitter board providing a 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 5 V linearised, temperature compensated output - the device can also be supplied with a compact LCD for easy set-up and calibration.
The housing (head) is fitted with the same infrared optical technology as used by E2V's mini IR CO2 and flammable gas sensors. Sensors are supplied in metal housings with sintered flame arrestors to prevent ignition of external gases. These housings are certified to ATEX, CSA and FM standards, allowing for easy incorporation into approved instrumentation.
The IR600 sensor is available in various thread and housing sizes to match industry standards, which means that the instrument manufacturer can quickly design the device into existing explosion-proof boxes.
