Wenglor's diffuse reflective laser sensors with a spot diameter of 0,5 mm is suitable for detecting edges, small objects and small diameter holes with considerable accuracy.
Available from ASSTech Process Electronics & Instrumentation, these high-speed laser sensors of the YD/YW series, with a switching frequency of 1 kHz, can be set within a range of 40 to 150 mm. The background suppression function increases the sensor's accuracy, as it operates practically independent of the colour of the object to be recognised.
Device alignment is easy due to the use of visible red laser light. The sensor is equipped with contamination warning, and can be supplied with anti-valent PNP or NPN output.
Rugged stainless steel housings make these sensors insensitive to mechanical stress and chemical influences, such as those typical of the food processing industry. The M18x1 housing design allows for easy mounting. The angled version of this sensor is also capable of 'looking around corners'. The retro-reflective laser light barriers - also in metric stainless steel housing and available in angled version - offer the same advantages.
One of the special features of the series is the small spot, which has a diameter of only 0,7 mm at a distance of 35 cm. This allows for the recognition of even the smallest parts. Working ranges of up to 14 m can be achieved with ample reserves for reliable functioning. The switching frequency is 3 kHz. The sensor utilises polarisation filters, eliminating the possibility of inadvertent switching caused by high gloss surfaces. The small spot also allows for the use of small reflectors, typically 23 x 13,7 mm.
