Alternative power system for mains back-up or mobile AC power

July 2000 Electrical Power & Protection

Tripp Lite SA distributor Comztek has introduced the Powerverter alternative power systems (APS) to provide a safe and more cost-effective source of reliable AC power.

"Powerverter APS gives users access to AC power wherever and whenever needed. Running off the vehicle battery (automobile, RV or service truck), it enables users to use computer and other power tools on the road.

"The system uses rechargeable batteries, converting their power into clean, computer-grade AC power," explained Comztek Product Manager, Sally-Anne Pearson. "When utility power is unavailable, the APS automatically senses the loss of power and switches over to battery power. The length of back-up of power is limited only by the capacity of user-supplied battery that is connected. When utility is again available, the APS integrated charger automatically brings the batteries back up to full capacity."

Tripp Lite offers a wide range of APS inverters in a variety of sizes for any application. They are ideal for powering laptop computers, appliances such as refrigerators and microwaves, audio/video equipment and power tools.

APS can support entire computer systems, telecom systems, security devices and non-life support emergency equipment with reliable extended run-UPS protection. Adjustable battery back-up offers enhanced operation in areas prone to frequent or extended brownouts and overvoltages.

Great for the person on the go, the Lappower unit plugs into a car's cigarette lighter, converting the car's battery power into clean, safe household AC. Ideal for laptop computers, fax machines, cellular phones, video games and other small electronic devices, they are the size of a 35 mm camera (fitting easily into any glove compartment) and offer 125 W of continuous power. Also available are the Powerverter general purpose, the Powerverter Plus and the APS series inverters with integrated battery charger.
