New runner blocks offer improved lubrication

Improved end cap design that enables lubrication from three directions has been incorporated into the Generation 2 runner block series for the Star ball rail system, now available from Tectra Automation. The new generation runner blocks incorporate additional storage capacity for lubricant, thus increasing lubricating intervals substantially. In addition to the optimised lubrication channels, the end cap also boasts an improved seal design.

Generation 2 series runner blocks are also available with a ball-chain cage capable of providing noise-free operation without sacrificing dynamic load capacity. The ball-chain has also proven extremely successful in high-acceleration and high-speed tests, with results showing permissible acceleration of up to 500 m/s2 and permissible maximum speed of up to 5 m/s, as opposed to 250 m/s2 and 3 m/s respectively for the previous generation runner blocks.

"Unlike many rival products, the new series is completely interchangeable, which means components can be replaced without modifications to existing designs," Tectra Automation linear manager, Kevin Lombard, explains. "In addition, the entire range of accessories available from Rexroth - including additional seals for contaminated environments, scraper plates and rail cover strips or front lubrication units - can be applied to enhance the new series runner block."

Tectra Automation will gradually phase in the stocking of the new series without ball-chain and will eventually replace the existing series with the Generation 2. A member of the Hytec group of companies, Tectra is the sole South African importer of the Rexroth linear range of equipment.
