Greater production capacity for automated bakery
January 2003

A leading company in the bread-baking industry boosted its efficiency and increased its capacity after installing Omron automatic control components products to automate a production line at a bakery. The company, a pioneer in the automation of bakeries and industrial factories in the bread-making industry, currently concentrates its efforts on the manufacture of semi-automatic production lines, automatic cutters for bread trolleys and completely automated factories.
Recently, it has developed a semi-automatic production line for the manufacture of all types of loaves of bread and bread rolls in a bakery. Dead times are negligible, as product changes are made as they go along, without the need for stoppages, this permits the production of 20 000 loaves a day. The Omron-based control system runs different parts of the installation: proofing chamber, doubles control, single winding moulder, dough proofing stack, various laminates with prior centering, cutting of dough into rolls, piece divider, automatic placing on trays and empty and full tray collectors.
An Omron CQM1H PLC with Compobus S communication is responsible for controlling the whole production process for bread loaves. Next to it, an NT31 programmable terminal provides the input interface for the operators. This permits the switching on and off, viewing and management of alarms, channel adjustment, adjustments to number of trays, type of product (loaves, baguettes, rolls, etc), time synchronisation, temperature control, etc.
The company opted for the use of SysDrive 3G3JV and 3G3MV frequency converters for its motors, eliminating earlier braking systems and achieving a more dynamic process requiring less maintenance. Similarly, along the line, E3JK photocells and E2EG detectors have been installed to manage passage of bread and to monitor the various appliances and manipulating devices such as retainers, centering devices, dividers, etc.
