Light curtains with integrated muting sensors

January 2003 Sensors & Transducers Conferences & Events

Reer's Janus ML/MT series photoelectric safety barriers are designed to protect machine operators exposed to risks when using hazardous machinery or industrial equipment. A muting function generates a temporary, automatic interruption of the safety light curtain's operation in order to permit a normal transit of material through the guarded opening.

The ML Series are designed for one-way muting for pallets leaving the area, while the MT Series are designed for bi-directional muting for pallet entry/exit. Both types have an operating range between 1 m and 2,5 m and feature two built-in, pre-wired and pre-aligned photoelectric muting sensors, offering a user-selectable maximum muting time-out of 30 s or 15 minutes.

All safety functions are integrated eliminating the need for external control units. The safety barriers are Type 4 devices providing the maximum safety level, conforming to EN 61496-1 and IEC 61496-1-2. The barriers consist of an emitter and receiver and they are equipped with fail-safe static outputs and user selectable, automatic or a manual restart function.

A diagnostics display and LEDs supply the current state of the operating or malfunctioning status and indicate any errors in relation to use and internal failures. Reer is represented locally by Shorrock Automation.
