A non-contact thermometer specifically designed for plastic film less than 0,3 mm thick is now available from PREI Instrumentation. It is a portable infrared thermometer Model MX P3 suitable for acrylic polyutherane, PVC, polycarbonate, nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, ionomer, polybutylene and glassine. It is also suitable for 0,25 mm thick PET and cellulose acetate.
The temperature range of this digital instrument is 100 to 350°C, and it is accurate to 1% of reading above 150°C. It has 16 laser LEDs that project a circle of dots to show the spot being measured. It has an audible/visual alarm, and displays the maximum and minimum temperature measured. These features enable moving plastic film to be scanned and problems to be quickly and easily identified.
