South Africa’s climate control industry has long depended on measurement technology sourced through indirect channels, specified from a datasheet, imported without local context, and supported, if at all, from overseas. SCE has been appointed the authorised Vaisala distributor for Sout Africa, bringing world-benchmark humidity, temperature and CO2 measurement technology directly into the hands of the engineers who design, install and maintain the systems it controls.

For over a decade, SCE has built its reputation on engineering complete climate control solutions, design, installation, commissioning and long-term support, delivered as one accountable service rather than a parts list. Measurement has always been part of that picture. The company’s DrySPACE and DryWORKS environments, and its work as an authorised Seibu-Giken energy recovery partner, all depend on accurate, stable data feeding the control loops that keep humidity, temperature, CO2 and pressure inside specification. Formalising a distribution partnership with Vaisala closes a gap in that picture, bringing the measurement layer in-house alongside everything else SCE already designs and supports.

Under a long-term OEM agreement signed in July 2025, SCE becomes the authorised partner for Vaisala’s HVAC measurement solutions in South Africa, authorised to distribute, specify, install, calibrate and support the full transmitter range, from room and wall-mounted units through to duct, immersion, outdoor and weather instruments, plus the handheld diagnostics used for commissioning and spot-checking. Vaisala’s instruments are used globally in pharmaceutical manufacturing, data centre operations and cleanroom environments precisely because they hold their calibration for years, rather than months, reducing both the frequency and the cost of maintenance interventions.

What changes for South African facilities is how the technology is delivered. Instead of specifying a sensor from an overseas catalogue and waiting on imported parts or offshore calibration, customers now have a single, local point of accountability that designed the HVAC, dehumidification, ventilation or cold chain system the sensor sits inside, and understands exactly what that system needs from its measurement layer.

This single-point-of-accountability model is important. A transmitter mis-specified for its environment can quietly undermine an entire control strategy, driving energy waste, compliance risk or in cold storage and pharmaceutical settings, product loss. SCE’s engineering team now carries that specification responsibility from initial site assessment through to commissioning and ongoing calibration, rather than handing it off to a separate parts supplier.

The appointment also extends SCE’s existing local support infrastructure, replacement stock, calibration services and technical support, to cover the Vaisala range alongside the company’s established HVAC, energy recovery and dehumidification lines. Every transmitter carries a 2 or 5 year warranty, and field-calibratable, user-exchangeable components are designed to keep instruments accurate for years with minimal intervention, lowering total cost of ownership while cutting the resource use of ongoing maintenance. For an industry where downtime on a single sensor can stall an entire production line, this local backing makes the difference between a technology upgrade and a liability.

The partnership targets the sectors where measurement precision carries the most weight, for example in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, logistics, retail, data centres, food and cold chain. South African businesses in these industries now have a local route to global standards of efficiency and compliance.
