Ultrasonic level meter with versatile built-in software

June 2000 Level Measurement & Control

Local distributor, Titan Technology, has announced the release of Nivelco's new generation of SMART compact ultrasonic level transmitters. The transmitters use Sensonic transducer technology combined with Nivelco's advanced process adaptive digital signal processing software, Quest+.

The flexibility of its programming makes the EchoTREK an ideal metering tool for basic applications requiring only a level proportional output (eg open reservoirs), as well as for complex applications requiring linearisation, relay action, fixed target suppression (eg agitated process tanks containing heavily fuming chemicals).

There are various programming options for the EchoTREK:

* Basic: This mode uses the supplied magnet for the simplest start-up. It allows scaling of the current output and setting of the error indication and damping.

* Complete: Using a plug-in programming module, the operator can choose between menu driven 'quickset' or full parameter programming to access all features of the smart device. The plug-in programming module has a custom LCD display, plus a bar graph indicator to display the tank level, volume or open channel flowrate, with six digits of identified engineering units.

* Level metering: The EchoTREK as standard incorporates a current output and a fully programmable power relay that can be used for various alarm and control functions. As a standard software feature it has over 10 preprogrammed tank shapes for volume calculation as well as a 32 point linearisation.

* Flow metering: The EchoTREK can also be used as a smart flow transmitter on open channel applications with its over 20 preprogrammed flume and weir flow formulae. It also has two independent volume flow totalisers and a relay that can be used as a volume flow counter.

Other features of the transmitters include:

* Multiple sensors on a two-wire bus system.

* Up to 16 separate level measurement points.

* Operator collected tank contents display or automatic scrolled indicator.

* Continuous update of analog and alarm outputs.

* Any combination of EchoTREK smart transmitter models.
