The SAAB tank control loop-powered radar level gauge offers the convenience and cost effectiveness of a loop-powered device with the advantages of noncontact level measurement. The radar is based on the principle of micropower impulse radar. The gauge has an accuracy of ±10 mm over the entire spanned range of up to a maximum of 20 m. Utilising a frequency of 5,8 GHz, the gauge has high immunity against condensation and contamination of the antenna.
As with all SAAB gauges, the processing software has intelligent signal handling that is based on more than 18 years of research and development. The device has an easy to read LCD for level, ullage, amplitude or % volume mounted on the gauge head. Configuration is achieved via input keys on the display, Windows based PC set-up software or HART communicator.
Stainless steel cone antennas are available in 4, 6 or 8" sizes, allowing flexibility of installation and allowing the gauge to function in processes from -40 to +150°C with vessel pressures up to 10 Bar.
The gauges are loop-powered by 18–20 V d.c. and the analog 4–20 mA HART output can be programmed to read level or ullage.

Level measurement of leachate from sewage sludge humification
Level Measurement & Control
A municipal utility in eastern Germany operates a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant with sustainable sludge treatment. The ultrasonic signal was being partially deflected by the wind, leading to frequent false measurements and inefficient process workflows. The problem was solved by replaced the ultrasonic level sensor with KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 non-contact radar.
