Hazardous chemicals sampling valve

November 2002 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

DLM, the local distributor for Swiss company, Technova, has recently launched a new sampling valve. The ISV-B series, with sampling bottle, is suitable for the chemical industry as it provides safe and representative sampling of liquid media from pipelines - without process interruptions.

The sampling valve is installed into a pipeline either horizontally or vertically. The product flows through the valve body around the valve spindle and by turning the spring return hand wheel the valve spindle is lifted out of the tapered valve seat. A representative sample will flow into the attached bottle. Trapped air inside the bottle escapes through a vent connection on the adapter. The bottle contains a predetermined volume of the sample, the hand wheel is turned clockwise, which in turn pushes the valve spindle into the valve seat, the valve is 100% dead-space-free. The major feature of the system is the protection afforded to the operator for toxic materials.

Rated from vacuum to a maximum pressure of 1,6 MPa (16 bar), the ISV-B series can run at temperatures between -40 and +200°C. Every valve is tested for leakage according to DIN3230 part 3. PFA-lined valves are spark tested with 35 kV to assure void-free lining.

Characteristic features:

* Maintenance-free stuffing box or bellows seal.

* Replaceable spindle gasket.

* Vapour vent connection or sampling from vacuum.

* Large spindle outlet for services with a high content of solids or viscosity - no dripping.

* Deadman lever with positive lockout.

* Stroke adjustment for precision sampling.

* Leakage detection port.

* Available in DIN and ANSI standards.

* Fine dosing (small sampling volumes).

* Compact, space-saving design.

* Spring housing and parts made of SS304.

* Suitable for all sizes, types of construction and materials.

Optionals:

* Sealing cap made of PP including chain.

* Safety padlock.

The core competence of Technova's full range of products is in the lining of valves and pipeline components with engineered plastics, designed for handling of corrosive and/or abrasive and pure liquid service requirements.
