Flow Measurement & Control

Meeting level and flow requirements at Achemea

May 2000 Flow Measurement & Control

At Achema, Krohne exhibited a new family of two-wire level and flow products, specially designed for ease of integration into today’s intelligent process control systems and for reduced costs of installation, maintenance and cabling.

For accurate and repeatable level measurement, the new range includes the BM702, which Krohne says is the world's first two-wire intermittent frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) level radar, and the BM102, an intrinsically safe two-wire time domain reflectometry (TDR) level transmitter. The latter is one of the lowest cost TDR instruments in the world, making TDR technology an affordable alternative to capacitance probes, pressure transmitters and ultrasonic sensors.

Independent of density, pressure, temperature, conductivity and product changes, these level transmitters are good for applications in the food processing, chemical, pharmaceutical, oil refining and petrochemical industries.

Also on show was the Altoflux 2W Hybrid, claimed to be the world’s first two-wire hybrid electromagnetic flowmeter. This compact and low power system enables the simple replacement of high maintenance orifice plate and turbine meter installations. A unique feature of this system is the hybrid connection. When process conditions change and noise levels increase dramatically, some two-wire systems have to be replaced by four-wire systems which means shutting the process. The Altoflux 2W Hybrid can be simply connected to a power booster to increase the signal-to-noise ratio without process interruption.

A complete range of Profibus products was also on show, in particular a new variable area flowmeter with Profibus PA connection.

Other new products at the show included the LS4000 tuning fork level switch; LineWatch, a complete pipeline monitoring and control system based on the unique Altosonic 5-beam ultrasonic flowmeter and Batchflux II, an electromagnetic flowmeter for batching in the fine chemicals, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
