Mitech's high torque pneumatic rotary actuators offer a choice of double crank or scotch yoke mechanisms allowing the user to select the best mode for optimum control and cost effectiveness.
Their double crank mechanism is designed for modulating control and offers high run torques, low friction and negligible backlash, while the scotch yoke design for on/off control allows high end torques to be realised.
The actuators are field reversible from clockwise-to-close to clockwise-to-open - which allows base mounting of the unit, irrespective of valve type and fail action. Standard sizes have been increased, and for easy selection of the actuator, a Mitech sizing program is available.
With their square drive, the actuators can be mounted perpendicular to, or inline with the pipework. Adjustable end stops allow the end position to be externally adjusted in both the open and closed position to ±5°.
The devices are easy to assemble and disassemble due to their single spring design, pre-stressed in a detachable pack, while the pressure seals are all simple 'O' rings reducing maintenance costs. Namur mounting details on the top shaft and transfer case lid provide a standard bracket for all positioners and accessories without the need of a coupling.
Actuators with a spring return mode permit the spring to give positive fail action in the event of an air failure, either open or closed. Much of the available force from the cylinder is used to compress the spring, resulting in a low torque output.
In the double acting types, all the available force is provided at the shaft as torque output. These units are compact, powerful and relatively inexpensive. Fail action can be obtained by using a volume tank and switching valve arrangement.
