Today, pneumatic cylinders are available to meet the stringent hygiene requirements of the food and packaging industries. Taking this a step further is the new Clean Design valve terminal (Type CDVI) from Festo - designed to put an end to expensive and complex compromises in the area of pneumatic systems. Coupling advanced design with corrosion-resistant materials, the CDVI valve terminal fully meets requirements for easy cleaning.
The CDVI is brought closer to the terminal via Festo's tried and tested valve technology and the component's full encapsulation is highly durable plastic. Whilst the closely fitted valve terminal accelerates pneumatic operation, cleaning time is reduced to a minimum because of the greater space between valves and the eradication of sharp edges, dirt-trapping corners and small radii.
Of great benefit to the process is the fact that use of the CDVI effectively makes the control cabinet unnecessary. The use of suitable materials such as PP for the housing, stainless steel screws, anodised aluminium for the baseplate, EPDM for the seals and chemical-resistant PVC for seals on the multipin connector in the IP65, allow the CDVI to sail through any test using cleaning agents from leading manufacturers. Even 'taking a shower' poses no problem for the CDVI.
Equipped and installed to customer specification, the CDVI offers a clean solution to all food industry requirements. 5/2-way, 5/2-way double pilot and 5/3-way valves, as well as 2 x 3/2-way valves using the spool principle are available. Their modular design with basic blocks in a four-unit or eight-unit grid allows two-unit modules to be expanded up to 12-valve position. Just in case, optional midi or maxi formats are available in one valve terminal. Two different supply pressures are also possible.
The CDVI's additional integrated fieldbus connection offers ultimate modularity, as does the wide range of installation options. The latter includes a fully mounted factory-tested valve terminal and electrical connection with pre-installed ready-to-connect cable. For optimal flow rate, the valve terminals are factory equipped with QS8 connectors on working lines and with matching QS12 connectors for the end plates. In the case of unilateral supply or internal control air, these are fitted with special easy-clean blanking plugs.
Complementing the Clean Design valve terminal CDVI is a range of products on offer from Festo: for example, the corrosion-protected, easy-clean Clean Design cylinder CDN. Stainless steel connectors, flow-control valves and tubing approved for food-related applications round off the program for the food and packaging industries.

Pneumatics & Hydraulics
Those working with hydraulic or pneumatic systems know that keeping your machinery running at peak performance balances productivity and cost. As systems age, they often become less efficient, requiring more energy and more frequent repairs. The good news is that you don’t always need to invest in an entirely new machine to solve these problems.
