In the field of machine tool drives, Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is offering the 1FW6 torque motor series with an increased torque range of up to 7500 Nm. Torque motors are rotary motors, designed for high torque output, permitting them to also be used as direct drives. The 1FW6 series operates according to the synchronous motor principle with permanently excited magnets on the rotor side. The increased torque is made possible by improved cooling - among other things.
By increasing the torque by 3400 Nm with an outer diameter of 730 mm, the 1FW6 becomes particularly attractive for large rotary table and rotary indexing applications. All motors are offered exclusively as integrated assemblies, consisting of stator and rotor, in two different fundamental designs. These are offered in the form of compact motors with external cooling jacket for small outer diameters of up to 310 mm, with the larger outer diameters starting at 440 mm, which are cooled by an integrated power and precision cooler based on Siemens' 'Thermosandwich' design. Both motor versions are available with radial or axial cable outlet and are equipped with multiple temperature sensors.
